Kayla Jordan 7/31/2018 11:51 AMToday is the very last day of the challenge! I am so proud of our teams efforts! Hopefully we can keep these habits in the future and all be more aware of the impact that our day to day choices make.
Don't forget the 3 R's are Reduce, Reuse, and then Recycle. They are listed in that order for a reason! If you can, first reduce your consumption especially of single use plastics. Reuse items as you can! And finally, once you are no longer able to reuse an item make sure you dispose of it properly which will hopefully be recycling or composting.
Great work team! -
Peninnah Ziegler 7/31/2018 10:17 AMHi team!! I'm so proud of us! What I've learned most is that using less plastic demands that I be more prepared and plan ahead. I now have a box in my car with reusable utensils, reusable containers, reusable bags, metal straws and reusable chopsticks.
I continue to struggle with plastic packaging. School supply season is difficult if I want to buy only what I actually need
though I'm doing much better with this part. Being aware of plastic use has translated into being more aware of paper use and electricity use as well.
Thanks, everyone!! -
Laura King 7/27/2018 5:16 PMPurchased a collapsible water bottle today. Great for travel -
Micala Teetzen 7/27/2018 11:26 AMOne of the challenges I created was to use regular floss instead of disposable floss picks. I quickly remembered how much I dislike using regular floss, but have used it most days this month. I did some looking online and found an item called GripIt floss holder. It is essentially like a reusable floss pick with a spool of floss inside that you pull out new floss as needed! It finally came yesterday. It will take some getting used to, but will cut down on some plastic waste at my house for sure! -

Peninnah Ziegler 7/27/2018 8:01 AMWe're so close that I know we can pass the 10,000 point mark before the end of July! Go Team Go! -
Laura King 7/26/2018 4:08 PMTalked to someone on the phone and moved my check from my work computer to my personal phone. I can checkin while on vacation! -
Janelle Patterson 7/25/2018 12:17 PMI gathered up some old t-shirts and an old tablecloth to make produce bags. Plus, this gives me a chance to improve my sewing skills :) -
Peninnah Ziegler 7/25/2018 6:26 AMI'm thrilled with how well our team has done! Go Sedgwick County Zoo!! We are in the home stretch with only a week or so to go in July. I think that I've made some changes that have become habits.
What have you discovered? I see that a lot of us have purchased items to help us be plastic-free. Any recommendations?-
Kayla Jordan 7/26/2018 2:43 PMI just got my new safety razor in the mail the other day and am never switching back to disposable plastic razors! This isn't only a better option for the environment, the refills are so cheap and will end up saving me money!
