The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is located in the North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California and is the largest ocean garbage site in the world. This floating mass of plastic is twice the size of Texas, with plastic pieces outnumbering sea life six to one. :(

 In the United States alone it is estimated that between 850 million, and over a billion toothbrushes, representing more than 50 million pounds of waste, are discarded and end up in land fills every single year.

A man went home to find his home beach covered in garbage. He started picking up the trash by himself one piece at a time and others became motivated to assist. Eventually the entire community was involved in getting the trash off of the beach. Eventually they restored the beach back to 90% of what it used to be and for the first time in 20 years the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles came and laid their eggs on the beach. One man made this difference. You can make a change too!

Spoke to a guest today about Plastic Free July and the importance of reducing your environmental footprint!  And I showed her the water bottle sling to limit the amount of bags she was using and a reusable water bottle!  She purchased 8 of them on the spot for her entire family and some of her friends!!! WooHoo!

Did you know that Indian fishermen are collecting plastic out of the ocean to build roads?! They intend to pull 25,000 TONS of plastic out of the ocean in the first 10 weeks!
