Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

I saved my waste audit for the final day of the challenge so that I could reflect on what I did this month and set goals for the rest of the year. I identified a few areas for improvement: eliminating plastic packaging by switching my hand soap to bars, making my own breakfast bars so I don’t buy them in single-serving packages, and purging my closet so I can assess only the items I need to finish out my wardrobe. These will be long-term challenges, mostly because I share my house with someone, and I don’t decide alone on everything we buy.

Great job and good luck to everyone else! Keep up the good work!

Last day of Plastic Free July! I know that I’ve changed a lot of my wasteful habits—hopefully for good! Have you??

We went to Juan's Flying Burrito and didn't even have to tell them I didn't want a straw. Our waiter told us in his introduction spiel that they were doing the hippie thing, so if we wanted straws to let him know. Took the opportunity to also educate an out of town friend who asked why we weren't all getting straws. Win-Win!

It has been fun this month challenging myself to use less plastic and be aware of the plastic that I do use.

OK environmental comrades, I have a conundrum:

Which is the lesser of two evils - coffee creamer that contains palm oil or half & half packaged in individual single-use plastic containers? :-(

Unfortunately we are limited by what is available in our purchasing contracts but maybe there is an opportunity to source something less wasteful AND more ethically produced with future purchasing agreements.

I did this the other night! It was oddly refreshing, I convinced myself I need to do this every time I go out to eat.

Just a few more days for plastic free July! What actions are you going to continue past this month?

I've really doubled down on not using straws or ordering drinks in disposable plastic cups, and I think that's a permanent change for me. In fact, the whole month has encouraged me to eat out less and also avoid ordering things "at risk" of including single-use plastic, which is an overall positive for both my health and the health of my pocketbook.
